so much

we have had SO MUCH happen in the past few days. but we also have SO MUCH to be thankful for. we went to el paso on thursday to spend the weekend with zack's dad. we were supposed to fly back on sunday afternoon but we ended up having to take poor little kyler to the ER on saturday afternoon. she had been acting weird all day (just off) and then when she woke up from her afternoon nap she felt really hot. we took her temp under her arm and it was 101.9. we took her to the ER and she had 102.5. did you know that babies under 6 months should never have a fever? i am so glad we took her. it was very sad. they did all sorts of tests, all of which were very painful. from the IV to drawing blood to a catheter to two failed attempts of a spinal tap. it was very emotional and we shed a lot of tears. they ended up admitting her and we finally got released today and we are HOME!!!

they determined that it was viral and were pumping her with fluids and IV antibiotics for 3 days. the reason they tried the spinal tap was to rule out meningitis or anything else bacterial. it was the worst experience of our lives. since they were not able to get the fluid they needed they told us that once she was admitted the pediatrician would have to determine whether or not to try again the next day. thank the Lord her fever went down and never got high again.

it was very sad seeing our little baby (who had her 4 month bday while we were there) in the hospital and hooked up to meds and an IV. it was also hard being so far from home and not knowing how long we would be there. it was also stressful trying to figure out what to do with kamdyn. we ended up sending her to lubbock to stay with lindsey & jason. i know that sounds crazy but we had great peace about it. we miss her very much and can't wait to see her on friday. i have been getting regular updates from lindsey - most of which are very funny.

despite all of these things that were hard, we are so very encouraged by all of our support. thank you SO MUCH to everyone who has been praying for us, sending us applicable scripture and offering to do anything we need. we are overwhelmed with the love and support from our friends and family. we are so thankful to our Lord for protecting kyler and healing her little body. we know that His hand was in every detail of kyler's health and we are grateful that she is healthy and home.

we are looking forward to resting for the remainder of this week. we are sad that we will not get to go to lubbock for thanksgiving and really sad that kamdyn won't be with us. but we know that everything is working out according God's plan and we have SO MUCH to be thankful for. we will be reflecting on all of these things this week.

here are some pictures from our visit. some are very sad and some are cute. kyler is a champ and i think she is so tough now from everything she has had to endure. by the time they took out her IV today she did not even cry. she is such a sweet little baby girl and we are SO HAPPY to have her home!!!

these three are from the ER when she was at her worst. this was the saddest and hardest night of them all.

these were in her room when we first got admitted. she only wore that gown for about an hour but her fever was so high she had to strip down and they never wanted her to put it back on.

starting to feel a little better
happy in that bed of hers - she got so used to her "club hand"

not feeling so good....
sleeping with daddy - we did have to hold her a lot to sleep. she had a hard time. it could have been all the beeping and having to get vitals taken so often!
we had to wrap up her "club hand" to take a bath.
getting vitals taken...
feeling good and playing with daddy
yay! we get to go home today...just waiting on the discharge papers and the nurse to remove the IV. oh, and did i mention i got pretty sick while we were there? that is why i look so lovely in this picture.
FREEDOM!!! she is finally taking the IV out!!!

let's get the heck outta here!

Oh, Haley, I so sorry that y'all have had to go through such a rough week! It is so encouraging that you and Zack both look to God and His protection and provision. Thank-you for such an awesome witness. I hope and pray y'all are able to get some rest and little Kyler can be back to 100%.
